Mattresses should be flipped twice a year. It will make your mattress last longer, and it will be more comfortable because the mattress won’t begin to sag as quickly.
Here’s a great way to remember: Spring, spin, fall flip.
This means that in the spring, one side of the bed gets spun to be on the other side.
In the fall, the foot of the bed becomes the head of the bed.
If you don’t mind writing on the mattress, consider this: Write a number 1 by your head on the mattress itself, a number three at your spouses feet. Write a number 2 on the underside of where your spouses head rests and a 4 on the underside of the corner where your feet rest.
Bear with me. It sounds complex but if you do it in the corners of a sheet of paper, you’ll see what this means.
If you do this, it guarantees you flip the mattress correctly. You start with number 1 under your head. Every six months, make sure the next number is under your head.
When you flip your mattress, strip all of the sheets, and vacuum both sides with a vacuum that uses a HEPA filter. This way, you’re actually suctioning out mites; their waste, which causes breathing problems and the dead skin cells they thrive on. It’s probably a good idea to do this more often, but doing it when you flip the mattress makes life easier.
I have the same problem and what I do for my bed is use a mattress encasement (it’s like a mattress cover except this zips up). You then can put on your sheets. Also purchase some allergy free pillow protectors and put those on before you put on the pillow cases. These steps will provide maximum allergy protection against dust mite allergens, pet dander, bed bugs, mold spores and pollen. And you will be a happy camper knowing your bed is fully protected.
It’s best to wash your sheets every five to seven days. Put your sheets through the normal cycle or if you have a front loader than you have the sheets option. No need for bleach. This will just wear out the fibers and the sheets will not last as long. Regular detergent will do just fine.
ABSOLUTELY just lay out the clean sheets on your bed and we’ll place the soiled sheets in the laundry room.
